Texas Adoption Home Studies has a network of experienced and qualified home study specialists throughout Texas for all your adoption needs. All home studies are prepared by professionals who each bring several years of experience in preparing home studies in a variety of adoption situations. We serve Houston, Dallas, and Austin areas in Texas as well as many other areas on a statewide basis.
Laura L. Johnson, ATR-BC, LPC, LCPAA
Laura Johnson founded Texas Adoption Home Studies. Laura is a Licensed Child Placing Agency Administrator and Licensed Professional Counselor. She is passionate about helping and supporting families to navigate the adoption and post-placement process. Laura has over 24 years of experience in the evaluation and placement of children. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Art from the University of Texas and a Master’s Degree in Expressive Therapy from the University of Louisville.
Myrei C. Edwards, LCSW, LCPAA
Myrei C. Edwards, LCSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with the Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners and a Licensed Child Placing Agency Administrator. She is the Special Projects Director for Texas Adoption Home Studies. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Syracuse University in 1990 and received her Master of Social Work Degree (M.S.W.) from Howard University in 1992. She has over 24 years of experience in working in family and child welfare, mental health treatment, and the foster care and adoption field. Ms. Edwards has completed and/or approved thousands of Foster Home Screenings, Foster/Adoptive Home Screenings, Pre-Adoptive Home Screenings, Interstate Placement Home Assessments, Kinship Caregiver Home Assessments, and court-ordered social studies.
Karen P. McWhorter, LMSW-IPR, CPS
Karen covers most of our Houston area studies. She is a Licensed Master Social Worker with the Texas State Board of Social Work. Karen obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Baylor University (1989) and holds a Masters in Social Work from the University of Houston Graduate School of Social Work (2002). Karen has over 28 years of experience working with children and families, providing assessments, foster and adoptive home studies, as well as post-placement supervision.
Jenny Mize, LMSW
Jenny is a Licensed Master Social Worker with the Texas State Board of Social Work. She received her Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Texas Christian University in 1997 and her Masters in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1999. Jenny held previous positions with a child-placing agency as an Adoptive Parent Caseworker and Birth Parent Caseworker, and she covers most of our Dallas/Fort Worth area studies. Jenny also provides invaluable support to the TAHS team and our home study families with questions related to verifications and many other needs.
